Erectile Dysfunction Medicines Guide: Types, Duration, Side Effects and Safety
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is very common and treatable. Most men who seek help are offered a PDE5 inhibitor tablet. These medicines work in the same basic way but differ in how quickly they start, how long they last and which side effects they cause. This guide explains the main types of erectile dysfunction medicines, common strengths, side effects and safety information.

How Erectile Dysfunction Medicines Work
PDE5 inhibitors block an enzyme that breaks down cGMP, helping blood vessels in the penis relax and fill when you are sexually aroused. They do not cause an erection on their own and do not increase desire. Sexual stimulation is still needed.
Main Types of ED Medicines
1. Sildenafil
The original PDE5 inhibitor. It usually starts within 30 to 60 minutes and lasts about 4 to 6 hours. A heavy or fatty meal can delay it. Strengths are typically 25, 50 and 100 mg. See Cenforce 50, Cenforce 200, Fildena 100 and Lovento 100 mg.

2. Tadalafil
Tadalafil lasts up to about 36 hours, which suits spontaneity. It can be taken as needed (often 10 or 20 mg) or as a low daily dose (2.5 to 5 mg), and it is also used for benign prostate enlargement. See Vidalista 5, Vidalista 10 and Actilis 20 mg.

3. Vardenafil
Vardenafil works similarly to sildenafil, with a duration of about 4 to 6 hours. See Vilitra 20.

Do Not Overlook Sleep, Stress and Anxiety
ED is not always physical. Stress, performance anxiety and poor sleep play a major role. Read why sleep is important for your health and happiness, 7 ways to reduce anxiety and does anxiety affect sleep? For related guidance see anxiety medications explained.
